The Italian Job

Yesterday after work, my sis and I went to run some errands – the bank and also bought some tai chow for the family to eat.

When we got home, we heard splashing sounds at the balcony. My sis saw water running down from the balcony to my dad’s car, which was parked by the sidewalk. Both of us were cursing. Nobody uses the balcony anyway. Why wash? Why want to waste water? I know Selangor gives free water every month but this is not a way to utilize it! We only wash it once a year but my aunt insisted on washing it whenever she feels like it.

After taking a bath, I joined my family for dinner. My aunt was still splashing away at the balcony and my dad’s car. My dad asked us what was the noise all about. We told him aunt was helping him to wash his car. In fact.. not washing.. aunt was pouring water on his car from the balcony!

After several rounds of persuasion, asking her to stop and come down to join us for dinner before it gets cold, she came down.

My dad, who had finished eating dinner decided to take the bicycle to the grocery shop.

We were having between 2 spoonfuls of sing chow mai when my dad made a u turn and went to the back of our house and called out to us.

“Where is my car?”

Thinking that he must be joking, my aunt said, “It’s there! I just poured water on it awhile ago!”

“It’s not there anymore!”

The few of us having dinner were alarmed. We frantically ran to the back of the house and some of us went to the front of the house and couldn’t believe our eyes that the car which was there less than 5 minutes ago, soaking wet is gone!

We ran upstairs and all of us were talking at the top of our voices. Our neighbor two houses away who was playing badminton with his sons outside their house compound did not notice anything suspicious. They were as dumbstruck as we were.

Not wasting any more time, my sister and I took our cars to comb the neighborhood for the car.

What puzzled us was – there was no ignition sound. The old white Nissan Sunny always took awhile to start. And it was truly puzzling how one could steal that car! And the engine always made a lot of noise when being ignited.

My dad and sister later went to the police station to lodge a report (which took them two hours, by the way). Apparently, the car now is a “hot” commodity for criminals. They were told by the police that, Nissan Sunny or any old car are stolen because of its sturdy exterior. It won’t be easily damaged if being rammed. Heck. I met with an accident with an old Nissan Sunny a few years ago and the car was as good as before but my poor Kenari koyak habis.

In fact, the police said earlier on, someone else also reported about his stolen Nissan Sunny.

So now, two old Nissan Sunnies were stolen and would probably be used for robbery. To humour myself, I tried to imagine Mark Wharlberg and Matt Damien doing the Italian Job in two old junks.

So friends, if you happen to see an old white Nissan Sunny ’85 car number plate ABD 2477, please call the police.

PS. I know some of you most likely would buy 4D tomorrow!

sorry to hear about the lost car but your last comment on the 4d buying just cracked me up. here’s another number that kept appearing to me today 1967 :P

  2. MisSmall Says:

Oh my, that’s horrible. I hope you hear from the police soon. :)

  3. Gina Says:

jasmine: Thanks.. can’t help it.. that was the first question everyone asked me whenever I relate the story of the theft to them – what number, so that they can buy 4D. Haha!

MisSmall: Thanks.. yeah.. I hope so.

You didn’t hear the car being stolen? Thieves getting very pro at their job. .. A friend’s house in Tmn Desa got burgled recently. Neighbours saw someone ‘drop by’ in a luxurious 4WD, saw someone open the auto gate with remote… without any hitches…drove the car in…closed the auto gate….Lo and behold, her new Sony 46″ TV was stolen. They also stole her LV bags and cash of course. But beat this…they even managed to find receipts to all the branded items and took them too… How pro is that?

  5. Life for Beginners Says:

OMG… Now I’m terrified! They can just walk in and do whatever they want, huh? Security in this country is going to the rats! :(

  6. Gina Says:

shorthorse: WAH LAO!! That is super freaky! I guess that serves as a reminder to everyone. But seriously.. if the thieves wanna do it, they don’t even need to think how to do it because they are just plain professionals!

Kenny Mah: Yeah.. it was really scary. When some thefts happened last year in my house, we were also shocked and I went sleepless for many weeks.

Somehow I find the police reply quite routine.

The last time I was at the police station reporting a break-in of my friend’s car where my belongings were stolen, a man came in to make report that his honda accord was stolen. and guess what, the standard reply resounded:

‘Baru saja ada orang report dia punya honda accord hilang. Sekarang ramai nak curi honda accord.’

I can write a routine program to help them answer them systematically.

  8. Gina Says:

laymank: I think so lah.. coz they told me same thing when I told them my house got broken into. Maybe it’s just to pacify us since they cannot do anything about it to prevent. Actually, I wanted to tell them off.. these things have been happening and you didn’t send more people to patrol that bloody place?

  9. cc Says:

Wow, so there’s a hot market for old nissan! You really cracked me up with the 4D joke! LOL

    Thanks for adding me. :)

I wish to relate an old story which I’d written here in my old blog. It turned out that my car got towed by the municipal council tow trucks. I hope you’ll hear from the police soon.

P.s. Thank you for the link love! :)

  11. Gina Says:

cc: Haha! Yeah hot market now! No problem. I enjoy your pictorial posts. They are very intriguing yet manage to capture simple facts of life.

narrowband: HAHAHAHAH!! So you paid RM134 for parking huh? HAHAHHA! But I think my dad’s one is confirmed stolen lah. Not towed away! You’re welcome. :D

  12. ml Says:

sorry to hear that. sigh… damn those pk!

  13. Gina Says:

ml: Thanks.. yeah lah.. hopefully the car died on them ah on their way to commit crimes. Haha!

  14. Ponytail Says:

Oh dear, sorry to hear that. Its so scary even at home nowadays…sigh
    Gotta pray for protection daily…

  15. Gina Says:

Ponytail: Yeap… I think since the govt doesn’t care.. and the civic mindedness of the people are deteriorating, we better rely on the Divine for protection and guidance.

  16. asme Says:

It is really sad. Sorry to hear about the theft.

The crime rate is just getting ridiculous. Next they will be stealing your dad’s bicycle.

  17. vj Says:

Did you lock your front gate?

Normally we dont even bother to lock the front gate at all. We should atleast maintain a moderate level of security for our own safety.

  18. Gina Says:

    asme: Aiyoh.. choi!!

VJ: Yes, we lock the front gate all the time. The car was parked outside, not inside the house. Now, even the cars in my house are steering locked just in case!
