A Dog Named Toki

I heard of this story from my cousin sis, Stephy.

Toki is an old black mongrel. He belongs to Stephy’s friend, Angie. His name is actually Doggy but then, since grandma doesn’t know how to pronounce Doggy, he became Toki to the family. Toki is very old and lazy dog. His left eye is blind due to old age. He always does nothing but lazes around the house. He is always gentle and hardly barks. Anyone who visited the house, would give him a gentle pat and he would wag his tail like a good, mild mannered dog.

Since Toki is old and smelly, Angie’s mom refused to have him in the house. She tried chasing him away but he would simply come home. Once, Angie’s grandma took him to the market, intending to leave him there, he still followed her home. Since Angie’s dad couldn’t tolerate the incessant nagging from his wife, and he loves Toki, he took him to his office, a manufacturing firm somewhere in Setapak and placed him there.

Then yesterday night, as Angie’s dad was preparing to leave his office, suddenly a brand new Honda turned in and knocked his car. Angie’s dad was puzzled. Why would a brand new Honda purposely knock his Storm from the back? It is no accident! A quick thinking dad knew danger is looming. He quickly pressed his car alarm and the alarm went nuts.

Sensing something was wrong, and his owner was in danger, a mild mannered and half blinded Toki went to the rescue. He barked loudly at the stranger alighting from the car – a dark, burly man carrying a parang. Brave old Toki was not intimidated. He ran after the stranger and bit him!

Angie’s dad took the opportunity to get out from his car and ran to his office to fetch a parang. When he got out from his shop, the man ran back to his car and sped off with another accomplice, with Toki chasing after it.

Angie’s dad was very grateful that Toki – the dog that his wife wanted to get rid off, saved him and his car from being robbed!

I guess, they don’t say, dogs are men’s best friends for nothing. This truly illustrate that, no matter how badly you treat a dog, the silly rascal will still remain loyal to its death!

I hope from this incident onwards, the family would take Toki back, but I believe he’ll be happier to be roaming around freely at the spacious office compound, rather than being caged at home.

mrsal: Thanks for dropping by my blog. Am glad it cheers you up.. been thinking lately of whether to stop writing since sometimes, I would feel a little depressed, and I wouldn’t write any posts when I am sad. Haha. So glad to see that some of my posts cheer you up, even if some of them appear to be morbid at times. Haha!

Wishing you speedy recovery! Yes, dogs are indeed man’s best friend. They guard their masters zealously and unconditionally.
